Redbridge Council has said the Hainault community will be left shaken following an incident which has left a boy dead and four others injured.
Five people were taken to hospital this morning (April 30) after police received reports of stabbings and a vehicle being driven into a house in Thurlow Gardens.
A sword-wielding man has been arrested by police.
In a statement, Redbridge Council said it is "shocked at the news" of the attack.
It reads: "Police have detained the suspect, and we are supporting the police investigation.

"There are cordons in place in the area this morning but police are not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident and have said there is no further risk to the local people.
"Hainault is a close-knit community and we know this will have shaken local people.
"Our thoughts are with all those affected and their family members."
An investigation has been launched and police have asked those with information to contact them on 999.
The incident is not thought to be terror-related.
