Fly-tippers in Redbridge are to face higher fines if caught illegally dumping their waste.
Grime crime offenders can now expect to be fined £1,000 on the spot for their fly-tipping following a borough-wide survey that Redbridge Council says has helped push the move.
The response received by the council to their budget survey for 2024-25 showed a public interest in implementing tougher action against fly-tippers in the form of steeper fines, a spokesperson said.
Cllr Khayer Chowdhury, cabinet member for enforcement and community safety, added: “Dumping rubbish and wrecking our environment is a criminal offence, and we won’t tolerate it as a community.

"We know local people want us to take a strong stance against fly-tipping and other environmental crimes so we’re introducing steeper fines as a deterrent, alongside court prosecutions and other initiatives to help keep the borough clean and tidy.”
The change came into play on February 1 in the hopes of deterring fly-tippers from illegally dumping rubbish across the borough.
Also included in the action is a £200 on the spot fine for littering and a £500 on the spot fine for graffiti or flyposting.
