The family of a woman who died after a “hit and run” crash in Chigwell have said that she “always put others first”.
Marie Theobald has been named as the victim of the fatal crash which took place in Manford Way on Friday (December 22).
The 48-year-old from Hainault was described by her family as a “loving mother, partner, daughter, sister, niece and friend” in a tribute released today (Christmas Eve).
Marie’s two dogs – Riley and Honey – were also killed in the crash.
Her family said: “Marie was an honest, hardworking, selfless woman who would do anything for anyone. Marie always put others first.
“The dogs Riley and Honey were much loved members of the family. They adored Marie as she adored them. May they all rest in perfect peace together.”
The family added that they wished for their privacy to be respected at this time.
Police, London Ambulance Service and London’s Air Ambulance were all called to Manford Way shortly after 5pm on the evening of the crash.
A car, believed to be a white Seat Leon, had collided with Marie who was walking her two dogs.
Despite the best efforts of emergency services, she was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police said that the driver of the car failed to stop at the scene. A Seat Leon was found close to the crash site shortly afterwards.
A man has now been arrested in connection with the incident and has been taken into police custody.
Detectives are still appealing for information about the crash and have urged any witnesses to come forward.
Anyone with information and any witnesses yet to speak with police are asked to call 101, quoting reference CAD 5312/22dec. To remain anonymous please contact Crimestoppers.
