A man who used different number plates to avoid being caught speeding has avoided jail.
Zahid Hussain, 43, of Mortlake Road in Ilford, pleaded guilty to perverting the course of justice and received a two-year suspended prison sentence on Tuesday (December 19).
Hussain’s BMW car was found to be linked to ten speeding offences, mainly on the A13 in east London, but he had tried to evade jail by changing his number plates.
Officers carried out enquiries and Hussain was arrested for the crimes.

Stephen Cannings, from the Met’s Safety Camera Unit, said altering the appearance of vehicle number plates “is not a minor traffic matter” but a “serious crime”.
He added: “Cases where it is suspected that the vehicle appearance or number plates have been altered to avoid prosecution for speeding offences will be robustly investigated.
“The Met will put offenders such as Hussain before the court and the judge has recognised the seriousness of the offence by imposing a suspended prison sentence today.”
