Remembrance events were held across Redbridge where people paid their respects.
The borough's Civic Service of Remembrance took place at Ilford War Memorial in Newbury Park on Remembrance Sunday (November 13).
A parade marched along the A12 and included Army and Air Force cadets, scouts, cubs, brownies, beavers and other youth groups.
The service was led by Rev Christopher Morgan, the Royal British Legion's (RBL) Greater London district chaplain.
The two-minute silence was then observed and wreaths were laid at the foot of the memorial.
Among those in attendance were Ilford MPs Wes Streeting and Sam Tarry, Redbridge Council leader Jas Athwal and the borough's mayor Thavathuray Jeyaranjan.
Lesley Bowers, treasurer of the Barkingside branch of the RBL and a Newbury Park resident, told the Recorder: "This year's Remembrance service at the Ilford War Memorial Gardens attracted an impressively large number of people whose hearts were visibly melted by the sight of two delightful young girls scattering poppies during the two-minute silence.
"It was wonderful to see so many people gathered together to honour and remember those who fought and died to secure and preserve our freedom."
Services also took place at Snaresbrook Garden of Remembrance, Fairlop Waters Country Park, Woodford War Memorial, Hainault War Memorial and Wanstead War Memorial.
