Do want to be the voice of change of youth football in London? The London FA is launching a new London Football Youth Council, to give Londoner’s the chance to have their opinions heard and drive real growth and progress in grassroots football across the capital.

The Youth Council will be made up of young people between the ages of 16 and 23, who passionately involve themselves within the grassroots football community, whether that is as a player, coach, referee, volunteer or fan.

The Youth Council will be comprised of 12 members, with two members representing each London region – North-East, South-East, South-West, and North-West – while a further four will be selected from across London to ensure a fair representation from all the London regions.

From the 12 members, the Youth Council will self-appoint a Chair, Vice-Chair and Secretary to help determine how the council tackle issues within grassroots football in London.

The Youth Council will have four key aims:

Youth Strategy: To support the London FA with their strategy on youth football, and help grow young people’s participation in the game

Youth Representation – To provide a voice for young people on football in London and influence London FA decision making

Youth Volunteers: To lead initiatives that benefit young people in football across London, encourage youth volunteering and to support London FA events/programmes

Youth Development: To support the upskilling of young people to enhance the future football workforce

Youth Council members will be required to attend London FA Youth Council meetings which will take place six times throughout the year.

These meetings will allow members to design and execute a plan of action to achieve the council’s four key aims.

London FA Football Development Manager, Luke Thomson, said: “The London FA’s new Youth Council will give young adults a voice within the community and provide the opportunity to directly involve themselves in the decisions that affect the grassroots football landscape in London.

“The council’s support will ensure that the London FA is able to continue to grow and improve football for young people in London.”
