Ellen Teresa Murdock

It is with much sadness that we announce the death of Ellen Teresa McMurdock (nee Salmon) aged 85 on the 14th of March 2019 at Harts House Nursing Home in Woodford Green. Ellen, known as Eileen to her friends and family, was born in Roscommon on the 19th of April 1933 to John and Kathleen Salmon and was the seventh of eight children. After graduating from Technical College, Ellen moved to Ilford, England in the 1950’s where she trained and then qualified as a State Registered Nurse on the 2nd of April 1957. She practiced at King George Hospital, Ilford and then went on to train and practise as a State Registered Psychiatric Nurse at Claybury Hospital, Woodford bridge. On the 21st of February 1959 Ellen married her husband Joseph Moore McMurdock, living first in Woodford Green until 1979 and subsequently in Goodmayes, Ilford until 2013. Ellen was a devoted and loving mother to her seven children. She was a grandmother to fourteen grandchildren and great grandmother of two. Ellen was a devout Catholic and a kind and compassionate true friend to anyone in need. She was a warm hearted, caring and dedicated nurse working part-time at King George Hospital until she retired in 1994. In her spare time Ellen read prolifically, loved to dance and was an accomplished seamstress, knitter, cake baker, crossword and anagram enthusiast. Ellen was in good health until 2005. Following increasing poor health she spent the last three years of her life at Harts House Nursing Home. Ellen was preceded in death by her husband Joe on the 18th of July 2013. She is survived by her sons Peter and Barry, and her daughters Anne, Jaqueline, Amanda, Elizabeth and Fiona. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St Thomas of Canterbury, Woodford Green. Ellen will be remembered always for her quick wit, playfulness, astute intelligence and for her grace, humanity and kindness. She will be greatly missed.
